A beautiful and neat deck adds to the aesthetic of your home. Of course, it is not just about aesthetics, but a deck serves a practical purpose as well. For example, you can enjoy a lively BBQ out on the deck while enjoying a few drinks with your family or simply enjoy some personal time, wrapped up in a blanket with a steaming mug of coffee.

But due to extreme weather or any other accidents, your deck can receive damage, especially if it is wooden. Whether it is minor damage or major damage, it is best to fix it as soon as possible. Especially in case of minor damages, you might be tempted to delay fixing it, which can cause the damage to become a bigger problem and might even require replacing the deck altogether.

So, here are a few signs that you need to get your deck repaired or replaced.

  • 1. Wood Damage
  • 2. Rotten Wood
  • 3. Insect Infestation
  • 4. Rust in The Fixtures
  • 5. Damaged Deck Posts
  • 6. Damaged Rails
  • 7. Mold
  • Conclusion

1. Wood Damage

The wood that your deck is made of can be damaged due to several reasons, like anything heavy falling on it and causing a dent in the surface. For that, is best to repair the damage as soon as possible. If the damage is too big, you might even need to get your roof replaced. For roof replacement, it is best to hire a professional deck replacement company.

The benefit of hiring professionals for deck replacement is that they will get the job done according to construction requirements and permits, and will do it in a refined way that a DIY job would not be able to achieve. Professional deck replacement is also be a smart option in terms of budget.

2. Rotten Wood

Rain, snow, or even low quality wood can cause your deck to rot. And a rotting deck is something that you need to take seriously as even the most minor rot in the wood, if left unattended for too long, can spread quicker than you think. This can result in your deck becoming unreliable in terms of stability, and an unstable deck is not really of any use since it can be threatening to the health and safety of anyone using the deck. If the rotten part is small, you can repair it with the right techniques. However, if the rot has spread, you will have to get the deck replaced.

3. Insect Infestation

One of the biggest threats to a deck can be insect infestation. If any insects have made their home in the wood of your deck, it is time to replace it. An insect infested deck can cause your deck to destabilize quickly and break down. For this job, it is best to hire professional deck replacement services as they will have the right knowledge of getting rid of this problem. If you leave this problem unattended for too long, the insects might invade your home and cause damage to furniture and even the entire structure of your house, which is a problem no one would ever want to encounter in ther life.

4. Rust in The Fixtures

The deck in your house is fixed to posts and railing with various fixtures. Due to several factors such as rain, the fixtures and shingles holding your deck together can gather rust. Since these fixtures and shingles are responsible for holding up your deck, it is best to remove the rust from them as soon as you detect them. Rust can affect the durability of the fixtures, thus affecting their performance. If they are rusted for too long and not taken care of, they can ultimately result in the deck becoming weaker.

5. Damaged Deck Posts

This one is of the more serious damages that you need to keep an eye out for. Make sure that the posts holding up your deck in place are in good condition at all times. If the deck posts are not sturdy enough, or damaged in any way, they can cause the deck to crumble and fall down, which can be a huge health hazard, especially if someone is standing or sitting on the deck at the moment of the accident. So, if your deck inspectation shows that the posts are weak, contact deck replacement services immediately.

6. Damaged Rails

Damaged deck railings can also be a health hazard, especially if you have young children or pets that are used to running or crawling around on the deck for enjoyment. If the railings are not sturdy enough, even the slightest amount of pressure can cause them to cave in and break, and anyone leaning on the railing when that happens can fall down, resulting in the possibility of them receiving some serious damage. So, in order to avoid this, make sure to inspect your deck completely from time to time, ensuring that everything from the rails to the post is in perfect condition.

7. Mold

Mold is something that you must avoid in any part of your house, specially the deck. Wood is prone to mold and it can spread quickly, causing serious damage along the way. Mold can weaken the wood of your deck, and weak wood means and unstable deck which you can’t trust. You should specially inspect your deck for this after it rains. In case you find any mold infestation on your deck, you should immediately contact a professional deck replacement company. Doing so will also help you prevent the mold from spreading from your deck to your house.

Conclusion

When you are standing on your deck, leaning on the railing and enjoying the view with a drink in your hand, the last thing you would want is the deck crumbling right under you and breaking down, causing you to fall along with it as well. This is not only detrimental to the structure of your house but can also cause you to receive injuries. That is why it is important to carry out a thorough inspection of your deck regularly to ensure that it is in a good state. In case of any damage to your deck, you should contact professional deck replacement services right away.
